Soul and Snapshots

This is a free camp for Arkansas students who will be going into the 7th , 8th and 9th grades next fall. (Priority will be given to GT students and those who attend schools in low-wealth areas.)

WHERE: DeltaARTS  301 S. Rhodes, West Memphis, Arkansas
Lunch and snacks will be provided daily

A weeklong camp filled with discovery, imaginative thinking, design, questioning, and art-making
 – Featuring tours of Memphis museums
 – Exploration photography and song writing

Soul and Snapshots is a five-day exploration of storytelling through music and photography. In this camp, students will have the opportunity to a view live performance by Stax Music Academy and journey to Downtown Memphis, where they will visit Stax Museum and the Withers Collection Museum and Gallery, write and record their own songs at Royal Studio, dine at the Hard Rock Cafe, and walk along the iconic Beale Street, the “Official Home of the Blues.” In addition to their musical explorations, students will also study the art of photographic composition and how photography can also be used to tell stories within the context of the music photography of Memphian Ernest Withers and visit the Withers Museum. They will hone their newly-learned photography techniques during their visit to Beale Street, later turning their stories into photo essays and album covers for their recorded songs.

This camp is made possible by an AEGIS Grant from the Arkansas Department of Education.
